Ricky Deci Invitational - Bryan won!

To make up for a total lack of blog updating, here's something way fun for you to watch. At least if you're into gymnastics. :p Bryan had his first big real meet yesterday. It was really fun to watch him, and he did great. He got 4 individual golds, 2 individual silvers, and the all-around gold in his age group. Way to go Bryan!

That's pretty cool. How long has he been doing gymnastics?

I'm very impressed and amazed at how strong he is. A few questions: How long has he been doing gymnastics? How many hours does he practice a week? Are you training for junior Olympics in the future or is this just a hobby? Way to go.

We started preschool gymnastics when he was 4.5 (Fall 2007), mostly because I couldn't stand watching him jump and do front flips from the recliner to the couch anymore, hehe. I figured gymnastics would give him a safe outlet for his urge to jump and flip. :p He was in the preschool class for a couple of months when the teacher came up to me and suggested we switch to a regular boys rec group, even though he wasn't quite 5 years old yet. So he was in the boys rec group for a few months, until we left Logan. He went twice a week there, for an hour each. When we moved down here (Summer 2008), I found a gym (that came recommended from a friend), and he started with a boys rec group there. Just once a week. Last Spring (2009), one of the boys team coaches approached me and asked whether I'd ever considered putting him on team. I told him we could give it a try. So Bryan started with the level 4 boys last July. He's at the gym 3 times a week, 2 hours each. Sounds like a lot, but he absolutely loves it! I'm not sure how far we're going to go with this. Dave and I have decided that we're going to support him in whatever he wants to do, but we're not going to be pushy. At the rate he's going, I wouldn't be surprised if we end up at JO one of these days, but that's still a few years in the future. It'll take a huge time commitment if he wants to do that, but we're leaving it up to him. In the meantime, we're on the look-out for a money tree, gymnastics isn't a cheap hobby once you start competitive, haha.

I LOVE it!!! I knew that little guy had something the minute I saw him riding his tiny little bike up and down the street keeping up with Tyler and the boys, and especially when he'd ride his scooter and do jumps off of the curb. He's such an athletic little man. Way to go, Bryan!!! That is so cool! When he gets his gold medal in the Olympics I'll be able to tell everyone "I use to live under him and would hear him practice his flips all the time!" LOL How exciting! :)
