The consensus

Allergy induced asthma. Which may be worse because he may be coming down with a cold (Elly and I have been dealing with some cough and runny noses). He's coming home with an inhaler and some medication (or a prescription for those things, Dave wasn't sure). The doctor also wants him on some antibiotics, just in case. I'm thinking we'll skip those, unless he shows other signs of bacterial infection (namely, a fever, or something of the sort). I'm not sure why you would give antibiotics for an asthma attack, really. It's not like he has pneumonia or something. Anyway, he got a breathing treatment there, and is all better. His main concern is whether he has to go to school tomorrow. I'm thinking so. He can always take a nap when he comes home. We've already missed two weeks, the kids just barely started up again yesterday. Don't think we'll be taking any sick days unless we absolutely have to. :p

i'm so sorry. the humidity and pollution there tend to magnify breathing issues. there are good allergists there!

Ironically, it's been really dry lately. My personal theory is that the inversions in Logan messed up his lungs... He had some problems last summer, and a bit over the winter. This is the first time we've noticed it since coming here. Poor kid. Glad to hear they have good allergists here. I think it would be really helpful to know if and what allergy is causing this, so we can take some steps to avoid the triggers. I guess I better get on the ball and find ourselves a doctor. Elly is 6 months, and hasn't even had her 4 month check-up yet. Oooops. Time flies...

Sounds like things are exciting as ever. Sorry about the allergies and the asthma. Greg has issues with that and it's really more of a nuisance than anything else once you know what you're dealing with. AZ has been the worst place for Greg, funny enough. Haven't been to Houston, though. Good luck finding a doctor.

I hope he's doing ok and survives school. : )

I know what you mean about delaying. I took Kevin in for a 2 yr. check with someone, I made them give him only one shot and they made me promise to come in a month later for another, but oooops. Haven't gone back yet. It's been almost a year. I didn't really like that Dr. anyway, still searching for one I like here. I'm glad there are good allergists in the area. Good luck! And keep breathing Tyler!

Glad to hear he's okay. Any trip to the ER can be a little scary. I love my kids doc. here. She is a granola mom and doesn't prescribe for every little thing. I could ask her if there's a doc in your area she would recommend if you'd like?

Sure Erin!

Scary. Glad he was doing better. And you know how to treat it. I think we (in general) are definitely over prescribed on a lot of things.

Toi, toi, toi. Wir sehen uns dann am Wochenende!

Yikes. I hope it is just a one time thing and not a permanent condition. I couldn't believe how many kids I taught in TX with asthma: I think for the population I taught, however, it had a lot to do with cigarette smoke.

Ethan and Trey have the same issues although Ethan is much worse. They've told us that the humidity is a big problem, too. It's a breeding ground for all sorts of problems!

I have two with asthma now. Josh has had it since he was very little, and Ben was diagnosed the other day. We knew he was having problems, so we had testing done. It's all over the place now. Our air isn't very healthy, I guess! NH has some of the highest asthma rates in the nation, if not the highest, so you can be happy you're not here. "_
